The Department of Computer Application is devoted to the study and research in applications of computer science at graduate and post-graduate levels. To bridge the wide chasm between computer theory and applications, Guru Nanak Institute of Technology , an educational initiative of JIS Group, a premier Educational conglomerate of Eastern India, started Master in Computer Application(MCA) program in the year 2007 with an intake of 60 students. The program is affiliated to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (formerly known as WBUT) and approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Bachelor of Computer Application(BCA) was started in the year 2008 with an intake of 60 students. The program is affiliated to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (formerly known as WBUT). Since its inception in 2007 it has produced several batches of young, trained and talented individuals who have made their mark in software industries like Tata Consultancy Services(TCS), Wipro, Cognizant(CTS), Infosys, ITC Infotech, BiskFarm, WBSEB and many more. The combination of competent and vibrant faculty members, modern infrastructure and state-of-the-art technical resources give an edge to the young technocrats. Dedicated Labs, equipped Library, Technical and Communication skills grooming along with regular industry exposure and interaction with various disciplines of GNIT are important value additions.

To create technical professionals who are keen to take professional responsibilities with a vast knowledge of computer science and its application – a specialization that has grown leaps and bounds in the recent years.
MCA & BCA have been conceived with an aim to give an emphasis on application. Apart from the syllabus prescribed, the department offers various additional advanced training programs, workshops and seminars to make the students conversant with current technologies. The students are also trained on industry based projects and research level projects like language processing, data mining techniques, fuzzy logic, genetic algorithm, soft computing etc.
The Department of Computer Application aims to produce technically competent, skilled IT professionals, researchers and entrepreneurs with the ability to apply their knowledge in IT industry, research & development or in entrepreneurial arena and they can meet the challenges in modern IT industry.

Their guidance has enriched my knowledge, inspired my interests and also helped me to get a really good exposure in technical world.
After getting studentship in the department of Computer Application, GNIT, I can say that the department has had an impact on my life well beyond the formal structure of education. It has given me the opportunities to develop knowledge and technical skills and also given exposure about the real life technical industry. I really feel myself blessed being a part of the department.
